Thank you for checking out “DW Women in Law,” a new blog by the Dickinson Wright Women’s Network. Here you can find information about our female attorneys and the issues that they think are important in today’s legal world. We will have guest commentary from our attorneys plus attorney profiles and articles.
Dickinson Wright’s Women’s Network was formed to help women attorneys address the unique challenges they face in the practice of law. Originally focused on fostering interaction, mentoring and support among the firm’s female attorneys, the network has since expanded to include our female clients and women in the community.
The Women’s Network arranges social, professional development and networking meetings throughout the year. Our meetings are generally based around a topical issue and provide a forum for open discussions and proposals to enhance women’s opportunities within the firm.
Each year, the Dickinson Wright Women’s Network also hosts an event that allows our female attorneys and clients to interact while benefiting a local charity. The designated charity is usually focused on the needs of women and girls. Last year, the Women’s Network and Vista Maria teamed up for “Sharing Our Success”, an evening filled with fun, laughter and giving back to Vista Maria. Guests enjoyed an evening of networking in the beautiful Butterfly House at the Detroit Zoo and heard the personal story of Susan H., a Vista Maria Alumnae. Guests were encouraged to donate clothing and body care products to Vista Maria and the event raised over $4,000!
Besides the yearly charity event, the Women’s Network established the Dickinson Wright Women’s Network Scholarship, which provides support to an outstanding female law student attending an accredited law school to support the future of women in our profession.
As in the words of one of our co-founders, Kathy Lang: “In creating the DW Women’s Network, we recognized that women lawyers face unique issues in the practice of law. One of the main purposes for the establishment of the DW Women’s Network was to provide a forum for discussing these challenges and discovering how other women, both inside and outside the firm, have addressed them.”
We hope that DW Women in Law will be an extension of that mission.
